How to Make a Relaxing Mother's Day Gift to Sew Using Lavender

When it comes to Mother's Day, there are so many different ways to show your Mom how much you appreciate her. You could buy her a gift, take her out to eat, or spend time together doing something she enjoys. At Bindle & Brass, we have found that making things for the people we love is one of the best parts of being human. We can take all of our love and care and put it into something tangible that we can give to the people we care about. Why not try making something lavender-themed? Lavender is a relaxing herb used for centuries. It makes a perfect addition to any sewing project. And what could be more comforting than a lavender eye pillow? We've put together a simple tutorial on making a lavender-infused sewing project. So gather up your supplies, and let's get started!

Choose The Fabric

A great way to get a feel for what your Mom would love is choosing the fabric you will use based on her interior design style. This will be something that she keeps out to display, so make sure that it will blend seamlessly next to her bed on the nightstand or draped by the couch on the coffee table. Below are a few fabric and interior decor inspirations to help.

Organic Modern

This interior would feel simplistic with neutral colors. The pieces chosen would be composed of natural materials. Pops of greenery would be nestled in corners around the room. The windows would be uncovered or use sheers for privacy to let natural light in throughout the day. If your Mom lives in this style, a cream corduroy would be a perfect fit for her gift.

Modern Classic

Think of this design as Old World European mixed with minimalism. Her color pallet would be high contrast that has a refined elegance. The materials used are solid and high quality, made of glass, marble, velvets, and metal. The interior might have a velvet couch next to a beautiful stained glass window. A perfect match to a fabric with geometric lines and bright colors to complement her sophisticated style.

Coastal

If your Mom's interior has shades of the sea, beige, blues, turquoise, and greens. The design is relaxed and natural, while the furniture flows like waves throughout the space. Ratan or wicker chairs may be tucked under the table or bar. An abstract bubble print on the fabric would blend nicely in the room.

Maximalist

If your Mom is the complete opposite of minimalist and loves layering bold colors, textures, and prints, this may be her style. She may have a collection of art from her travels or a wall full of books. Choose a fabric that looks like you took a piece from her boldly papered walls.
